ABOUT DIONNA
Dionna McMillian is a director,editor,and D.I.T. She enjoys directing heartwarming pieces featuring diverse leads. A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, she currently resides in Los Angeles, California. She is represented for directing by Kaplan Perrone.
Dionna is known for her short comedy film "Love, New York," which played multiple film festivals, was featured on Issa Rae’s Short Film Sundays, and received mentions in Forbes and Business Insider. She also directed "The Next Right Thing," which played at several film festivals, including the Indie Memphis Film Festival. Additionally, her film "Such A Deal" won Best Comedy Short at several film festivals and played at ABFF’s comedy film festival. Dionna has also directed commercials, music videos, and multi-cam television.
In addition to her work as a director, Dionna works as an editor and D.I.T. She has worked on a variety of projects, including feature films and documentaries. Her clients include META, Twitch, TikTok, The A&E Network, and Apple. Projects she has worked on have played at the LA Shorts International Festival, the Cleveland Film Festival and the Essence film festival to name a few. She also has taught editing and directing at the collegiate level. She’s lectured at top film schools, including Chapman University and Brooklyn College. She also served as the Chair of the Post-Production Department at the New York Film Academy's New York location. While in that role, Dionna taught locally and internationally as a guest lecturer in Mumbai, India; Beijing, China; and Doha, Qatar.
Dionna holds an M.F.A in Film and Electronic Media from American University, and a B.A. with a major in Sociology and Political Science from Alabama State University. Dionna was a very active student during her undergraduate studies and currently serves on the ASU National Alumni Association Board of Directors. In her free time, Dionna enjoys playing tennis, hiking, and learning random trivia facts.
